Replay has traditionally been and is currently, one of the most active
theatre companies in Northern Ireland. The company has a history of
commissioning scripts from Northern Irish writers and has worked with
both developing and established playwrights such as Marie Jones, Gary
Mitchell, Damian Gorman, John McClelland, Brenda Winter and Rebecca
Bartlett. Subjects covered range widely from curriculum based areas
such as the Vikings in Ireland (for Primary Schools), to issues of
bullying (for Primary and Secondary Schools) and drug abuse (for
Secondary Schools). Where appropriate the company also produces
existing work, which it considers relevant to young people in Northern
Ireland.
Replay places great importance in the professional standard and quality
of its work, both on stage and off. This commitment has led it to become
an 'Approved Manager' of the Independent Theatre Council, and to be nominated
for a number of prestigious awards the most recent of which include:
o Winner of Best Production (Small Organisation) 2001 Diversity 21 Awards
for Shalom Belfast! by Rebecca Bartlett.
o Nomination in the 1999 Belfast Arts Awards for the production Sometimes
by Damian Gorman;
o Nomination in the 1998 Belfast Arts Awards for the productions in 1997/98
of Sinking by Gary Mitchell and The Lost Child by Mike Kenny;
o Nomination for a Special Judges' Award at the Irish Times/ESB Theatre
Awards 1997 for the company's 'comprehensive approach to Theatre In Education'.
